I've lived in the U.S., Singapore, and China. Meeting people from diverse backgrounds has shown me that although our languages, traditions, and experiences may differ, we share many of the same hopes, joys, and challenges. I believe one of the kindest parts of human nature is caring for those who are vulnerable, not out of pity, but out of a sense of our shared humanity. I once wrote a poem for people experiencing homelessness in Seattle and sent five pairs of socks from China to a local Urban Rest Stop. I find peace in music and writing, both poetry and prose.
