When I was a kid, having a pen pal was all the rage. Sure, some people thought it was nerdy, but they changed their tune when post arrived from the other side of the globe with messages written in curly handwriting that gave a glimpse into another world. Today, we have social media, and that’s great, but there is something magical about the postman dropping a letter off, a handwritten message, and a stamp from another country. I wish I had stayed in touch with my first pen pal but teenage angst got in the way. Now I’m older, not much wiser, but can appreciate the connection of pen pals.
