Deleting a message
You can delete any single message from your side of a conversation. Here is how — and what your penpal still sees.
How to delete a message
- Tap the message you want to delete. On a computer, you can also point at it and click the small arrow in its top corner.
- A small menu opens under the message. Choose Delete for me.
- Confirm, and the message disappears from your conversation.
What your penpal sees
Nothing changes for them. Deleting removes the message from your view only — your penpal still has their copy. It does not unsend a message, so take a moment before you write anything you might regret.
Good to know
- Deleted messages cannot be recovered Once you delete a message it is gone from your conversation for good, so you will always be asked to confirm first.
- Some messages wait for a safety check A message that is still being checked cannot be deleted until the check is finished.
- Save to notes On your penpal’s messages, the same menu lets you copy the message into your private notes about that penpal.
- Using letter view? Each letter has a small bin underneath it instead — tap it and confirm.
Want to stop hearing from someone? Deleting a message does not stop them writing. You can block or report a penpal instead.
